Seasonal Job Openings:
Lifeguards – Seasonal, 10-25 hours/wk.

     open to ages 16+

           The Mendon Parks Department is seeking certified Lifeguards to work at the Mendon Town Beach.  Ideal candidates should enjoy working outside as well as working with children.  Opportunities for advancement and additional pay in later seasons are available to those who show leadership and initiative. 

Hours include shifts between 11am and 7pm daily including weekends, holidays, evening events, and additional shifts teaching swim lessons are available from 8am-12pm.  Some flexibility with scheduling is available but preference will be given to applicants with open availability.  The beach opens at the end of June and is open for about 10 weeks through August.

            Job Requirements: Current Lifeguard and CPR/First Aid Certifications or enrollment in a class to be completed by June.  Waterfront certification not required but is a plus.  Duties include working outside in hot and/or inclement weather.  Lifeguards are expected to swim, be active, perform water rescues if needed, and other physical tasks.  Applicants must be at least 16 years by the start of their employment per Federal Child Labor Laws. 

            Salary: Starting at $15.75/hr depending on qualifications and experience.

Beach Director – Seasonal, 30-40 hours/wk.

     open to ages 18+

            The Mendon Parks Department is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of seasonal Beach Director for the Mendon Town Beach.  This is a new position and responsibilities may evolve over the season.

This person will work under the direction of the Director of Parks and Recreation and as part of the Parks summer program management team to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Town Beach. 

Lifeguard Certification is required.  This position will be a working manager, working as a lifeguard while also taking on additional administrative responsibilities as assigned.  Opportunities exist to create new summer programming or classes.  The ideal candidate is creative, innovative, self-driven, has leadership and supervisory experience and customer service skills, as well as familiarity with general office technology including Google Suites, Facebook, Instagram. 

            Duties include lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons, supervising lifeguards and coordinating staff schedules, overseeing the swim lesson program, interacting with the public and program participants, managing, and posting content to social media pages, assisting with processing registration and payments, assisting other administrative tasks as needed, and other duties as assigned.

Hours will be 20-40 per week, weekdays between 8am-5pm, June-Aug with additional evening and weekend hours to cover shifts or assist with events.  Some flexibility with scheduling is available but preference will be given to applicants with open availability and experience. 

            Job Requirements: Applicants must be at least 18 years by the start of their employment.  Duties include working outside in hot and/or inclement weather and may involve swimming, water rescues, and other physical tasks.

     Salary:  $17-$20/hr depending on qualifications and experience.

   This is a seasonal position with no benefits.

Kids ‘N’ Us Summer Rec. Program Counselor – Seasonal, 10-40 hours/wk.

     open to ages 16+

            The Mendon Parks Department is seeking Counselors for our Kids ‘N’ Us Summer Recreation Program.

Ideal candidates are individuals who enjoy working with and inspiring children, are active and fun-loving, like working outdoors, and are hardworking and reliable.  Counselors will be expected to swim every day and may be responsible for leading small group activities.  Previous work experience is not required but experience working with children is a plus. Opportunities for advancement and additional pay in later seasons are available to those who show leadership and initiative. 

            Hours include full and ½ day shifts between 7:30am and 5:30pm Mon-Fri, for 10 weeks starting in the end of June through August.  Some flexibility with scheduling is available but preference will be given to applicants with open availability.

            Job Requirements: Applicants must be at least 16 years old by the start of their employment.  First Aid/CPR certifications preferred but not required (training may be offered).  Duties include working outside in hot and/or inclement weather.  Staff are expected to be active participants in all activities including swimming. 

            Salary: Starting at $15/hr depending on qualifications and experience.

Kids ‘N’ Us Summer Rec. Prog. Junior Counselor – Seasonal, 10-20 hours/wk.

     Entry level position for kids ages 14-15

            The Mendon Parks Department is seeking Junior Counselors for our Kids ‘N’ Us Summer Recreation Program. 

This position is intended to provide entry level work experience to young applicants looking for their first job.  Although not required, preference will be given to those who have previously attended one of our programs.  Preference will also be given to Mendon residents though all are welcome to apply.

Ideal candidates are individuals who enjoy working with and inspiring children, are active and fun-loving, looking for entry level work experience and are ready for more responsibility.  Previous work experience is not required. 

Duties include supervising children and assisting with bathroom/water breaks, helping to lead different indoor and outdoor activities and crafts, support counselors in resolving minor conflicts, assist in packing and distributing lunches, general cleaning, and other duties as assigned. 

Hours include full and ½ day shifts between 7:30am and 5:30pm Mon-Fri, for 10 weeks starting in the end of June through August, no more than 20 hours per week.  Flexibility with scheduling is available but preference will be given to applicants with open availability.

            Job Requirements: Applicants must be at least 14 years old by the start of their employment.  First Aid/CPR certifications preferred but not required (training may be offered).  Duties include working outside in hot and/or inclement weather.  Staff are expected to be active participants in all activities including swimming. 

            Salary: $13/hr - in accordance with MA AG’s Office opinion letter 2/13/02 Applicability of MGL ch151 to Town Employees this position will be paid below state minimum wage

 
Snack Shack Employees – Seasonal, 15-25 hours/wk

     open to ages 16+

            The Shack Employee serves as the “face” of the Town Beach and provides excellent customer service and is responsible for cooking, preparing, and serving food to the public and our Rec. Program participants. 

Applicants should be self-driven, responsible, organized, and capable of making decisions on the fly and comfortable working with others and alone. Previous work and/or food-service experience is preferred. 

Shifts include hours from 9am-8pm daily including weekends and holidays for about 10 weeks from the end of June through August.  ServSafe, MA Allergen Awareness, and/or CPR/First Aid certifications are not required but are a plus.  Some flexibility with scheduling is available but preference will be given to applicants with availability and experience. 

            Job Requirements: Applicants must be at least 16 years old by the start of their employment.  Duties include handling and counting money, safely preparing food, working in a hot kitchen, and overhead lifting of 25+ lbs. 

        Salary: Starting at $15/hr depending on qualifications and experience

Snack Shack Junior Employees – Seasonal, 10-15 hours/wk

     Entry level position for kids age 15.

            The Shack Junior Employee assists our Snack Shack Crew in serving as the “face” of the Town Beach, provides excellent customer service serving food to the public and our Rec. Program participants, and assists in the packaging and preparation of food as directed.  This position is intended to provide entry level work experience to young applicants looking for their first job.  Applicants should be hard-working, responsible, organized, and comfortable working with others.   

Shifts will be ½ days, 3-6 hours long between the hours of 10am and 7pm, with occasional nights for events, including weekends and holidays for about 10 weeks from the end of June through August.  Some flexibility with scheduling is available but preference will be given to applicants with availability and experience.  Opportunities for advancement are also available. 

            Job Requirements: Applicants must be at least 15 years old by the start of their employment.  Duties include handling and counting money, safely preparing food, working in a hot kitchen, and overhead lifting of 25+ lbs.  Per state and federal labor laws this position will not operate the fryer.

            Salary: $13/hr - in accordance with MA AG’s Office opinion letter 2/13/02 Applicability of MGL ch151 to Town Employees this position will be paid below state minimum wage

 
Landscape Maintenance Crew – Seasonal, 24-40 hours/wk

            The Parks Landscape Maintenance Crew is responsible for maintaining all Parks facilities, Town buildings, monuments, and islands.  Tasks include mowing, weeding, raking, cleaning, picking up trash, etc.  Candidates should be hardworking and driven, responsible, enjoy working outside, and take pride in their work.  Opportunities for advancement and additional pay in later seasons may be available to those who show leadership and initiative.  No experience is required but preference will be given to those with experience. 

Regular hours are 7am-3:30pm Mon-Fri 5 days a week starting when school ends in June and running through August. Additional hours available in May and later in Sept for those available. Some flexibility with scheduling is available but preference will be given to applicants with open availability. 

            Job Requirements: Applicants must be at least 16 years old by the start of their employment.  Driver’s license not required but strongly preferred.    Duties include operating lawn care and landscape machinery and hand tools, overhead lifting of 50+ lbs and working outside in all weather.  This is a seasonal position with no benefits.  

            Salary: Starting at $15/hr depending on qualifications and experience.

Landscape Maintenance Crew - Lead – Seasonal, 30-40 hours/wk.

            The Mendon Parks Department is seeking a lead person for our landscape maintenance crew.  The Parks Landscape Maintenance Crew is responsible for maintaining all Parks facilities, Town buildings, monuments, and islands.  The lead person is responsible for running and supervising the maintenance crew of 2-4 other members, while working alongside them, scheduling work and employees, and ensuring all maintenance tasks are completed in a safe and timely manner.

            The ideal candidate should be hardworking and driven, responsible, enjoy working outside, and take pride in their work.  They should have some leadership experience as well as experience running basic landscaping equipment (ride-on mowers, driving a truck and trailer, string trimmer, as well as basic hand tools)

Regular hours are 7am-3:30pm Mon-Fri 5 days a week starting when school ends in June and running through August. Additional hours available starting in May and continuing into the fall for those available earlier. Some flexibility with scheduling is available but preference will be given to applicants with open availability. 

            Job Requirements: Applicants must be at least 18 years old by the start of their employment.  Valid driver’s license required.    Duties include operating lawn care and landscape machinery and hand tools, driving a truck and trailer, overhead lifting of 50+ lbs, and working outside in all weather.  This is a seasonal position with no benefits.  

            Salary $16-$18/hr depending on qualifications and experience.

 
     These are part-time seasonal position with no benefits.
