The deadline for the initial round of applications was 2/24/20 and the 2020 hiring process was completed in March.  At this time we are no longer seeking applications for 2020.  However if you are still interested in working for us please feel free to submit an application at any time.  If someone drops out or additional positions open up we will consider any applications on file before posting new openings.  All applications will be held for up to 1 year in case a position opens up.

Seasonal Job Openings:
 

Lifeguards – Seasonal, 10-30 hours/wk.

       The Mendon Parks Department is seeking certified Lifeguards to work at the Mendon Town Beach.  Ideal candidates should enjoy working outside as well as working with children.  Opportunities for advancement and additional pay in later seasons are available to those who show leadership and initiative.

Hours include shifts between 11am and 7pm daily including weekends and holidays and additional shifts are available from 8am-12pm during swim-lessons.  Some flexibility with scheduling is available but those with the most availability will be given the most hours

Job Requirements: Current Lifeguard and CPR/First Aid Certifications or enrollment in a class to be completed by June.  Waterfront certification not required but is a plus.  Duties include working outside in hot and/or inclement weather.  Lifeguards are expected to swim, be active, perform water rescues if needed, and other physical tasks.  Applicants must be at least 16 years by the start of their employment per Federal Child Labor Laws. 

 

Kids ‘N’ Us Summer Rec. Prog. Counselor – Seasonal, 15-40 hours/wk.

The Mendon Parks Department is seeking Counselors for our Kids ‘N’ Us Summer Recreation Program.

Ideal candidates are individuals who enjoy working with and inspiring children, are active and fun-loving, like working outdoors, and are hardworking and reliable.  Counselors will be expected to swim every day and may be responsible for leading small group activities.  Previous work experience is not required but experience working with children is a plus. Opportunities for advancement and additional pay in later seasons are available to those who show leadership and initiative. 

Hours include full and ½ day shifts between 7:30am and 5:30pm Mon-Fri, from the end of June through August.  Some flexibility with scheduling is available but preference will be given to applicants with open availability.

Job Requirements: Applicants must be at least 16 years old by the start of their employment.  First Aid/CPR certifications preferred but not required (training may be offered).  Duties include working outside in hot and/or inclement weather.  Staff are expected to be active participants in all activities including swimming. 

 

Maintenance Crew – Seasonal, 30-40 hours/wk.

The Mendon Parks Department is seeking seasonal employees to join our Parks Maintenance Crew.  The Parks Maintenance Crew is responsible for maintaining all Parks facilities, Town buildings, monuments, and islands.  Tasks include mowing, weeding, raking, cleaning, trash, etc.  Candidates should be hardworking and driven, responsible, enjoy working outside, and take pride in their work.  Opportunities for advancement and additional pay in later seasons are available to those who show leadership and initiative.  No formal experience is required but preference will be given to those with experience. 

Hours are 7am-3:30pm Mon-Fri up to 5 days a week from June through August.  Some flexibility with scheduling is available but preference will be given to applicants with open availability. 

Job Requirements: Applicants must be at least 16 years old by the start of their employment.  Driver’s license not required but strongly preferred.    Duties include operating lawn care and landscape machinery and hand tools, overhead lifting of 50+ lbs and working outside in all weather.  This is a seasonal position with no benefits.  

 

Snack Shack Employees – Seasonal, 15-30 hours/wk)

The Mendon Parks Department is seeking qualified employees to join our Snack Shack crew at the Mendon Town Beach.  Previous work and/or food-service experience is preferred. 

The Shack Employee serves as the “face” of the Town Beach and provides excellent customer service as well as cooks and serves food to the public and our Rec. Program participants.  Applicants should be self-driven, responsible, organized, and capable of making decisions on the fly and comfortable working with others and alone.

Shifts include hours from 10am-8pm daily including weekends and holidays from June through August.  ServSafe, MA Allergen Awareness, and/or CPR/First Aid certifications are not required but are a plus.  Some flexibility with scheduling is available but preference will be given to applicants with availability and experience. 

Job Requirements: Applicants must be at least 16 years old by the start of their employment.  Duties include handling and counting money, safely preparing food, working in a hot kitchen, and overhead lifting of 25+ lbs. 

 

Summer Intern – Seasonal, 20-40 hours/wk.

The Mendon Parks Department is seeking a qualified seasonal employee to join our team this summer as an intern to assist with our summer programming. This is a new position this summer, working under the Director of Parks & Recreation as well as the Recreation Program Director.  Duties may include some or all of the following: interacting with participants and customers, answering phones and emails, managing and posting content to social media pages, processing program registration and payments, assisting with rec program administrative tasks, data entry, and other duties as assigned

Candidates should have experience handling money, customer service skills, and moderate to advanced computer skills.  Familiarity with Facebook, Instagram, Microsoft Excel Google Sheets preferred.  Applicants should be self-driven, organized, and responsible.  This would be an ideal position for a candidate looking for experience in Municipal Government or the Parks & Rec industry. 

As this is a new position hours may change.  Hours during the summer season (June-Aug) will likely include Mon-Fri 7:30am-2pm with occasional evening and weekend hours.  Rate of pay will be minimum wage ($12.75 depending on experience).  Additional hours may be available in the pre and post season as needed.  Some flexibility with scheduling is available but preference will be given to applicants with open availability and experience.

These are part-time seasonal position with no benefits.
