Position Opening- Heavy Equipment Operator

The Town of Mendon is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to perform manual work of a routine and semi-skilled nature on construction, maintenance, or repair projects, as required. Operates motor equipment which may include, but is not limited to, brush mower, pick-up truck and snow plow. Operates associated power and hand tools which may include, but is not limited to, air compressor, jack hammer, asphalt saw and chain saw. Plows, sands and salts streets and sidewalks; repairs drainage systems; performs manual labor incidental to the work of operating assigned equipment.

Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent and one to three years of experience in construction and maintenance activities, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. CDL and Hoisting Engineer’s License required.

Library Assistant, Taft Public Library

The Library Assistant will cover the adult circulation desk with occasional shifts on the children’s circulation desk. Desk duties include checking materials in and out to patrons, answering questions from the public in-person and on the phone, assisting patrons with library resources and technology, troubleshooting patron computers, helping to maintain the circulating collection through shelving, shelf reading, and cleaning, setting up displays, and processing and cataloging library materials.  Shifts at the children’s circulation desk may include assisting the Children’s Librarian in preparing for children’s programs.

Qualifications: High School diploma/equivalency with one to two years’ experience in clerical or library-related work required, college degree preferred.  Successful candidate will have excellent customer-service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with the public and other library staff. Candidate must exhibit attention to detail, be able to problem solve, and work independently.  Excellent computer skills a necessity.  Familiarity with CW MARS Evergreen software and our library catalog a plus.  Knowledge of popular adult and children’s literature and media preferred.

Part-time position, 8 hours per week. One position needed for Tuesdays and one for Wednesdays 11am-7pm as well as 3 hours on alternating Saturdays (9am-12pm); fill in coverage as needed. Salary range $16.50-17.00 per hour.  Please submit cover letter, resume and three references to Andrew Jenrich, Director

The Firefighter/Paramedic works under the direction of the Fire Chief, and is responsible for emergency response and activities at fires, rescue scenes and emergency medical incidents.  The Firefighter/Paramedic performs general duties in support of primary responsibilities including general maintenance, upkeep, documentation/record keeping and office tasks.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, and Massachusetts Paramedic certification. Fire Fighter I/II Pro Board certification or equivalent and 1 year experience in firefighting and emergency medical services field delivery preferred.   

Contractual entry level hourly rate is $22.48, top step $26.58.

Municipal Clerk (Collector/Treasurer)

        Position is responsible for performing a variety of skilled, complex to semi-complex bookkeeping, cashiering, record keeping, and clerical support work in support of the Treasurer’s office.  Incumbent is required to perform all similar or related duties.         Qualifications: High school graduate, including or supplemented by courses in business, secretarial skills and office procedures; excellent computer skills with proficiency in Excel, Word, MS Office; strong attention to detail; one to two years of experience in customer service, bookkeeping, and accounts receivable and payable preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Substitute Van Driver

The Town of Mendon will be accepting ongoing applications for Substitute Van Drivers for the Council on Aging.  This periodic, part-time, fill-in position starts at a rate of $17.23 per hour. Applicants must have a high school diploma, a valid Mass. Driver’s license and a clean driving record. CPR certification and CORI check are also required.  Prior experience with senior population, demonstrated effective social/interpersonal communication skills and ability to respect and maintain confidentiality are beneficial. Recycling Center Attendant (Substitute)

The Town of Mendon is seeking a Substitute Recycling Center Attendant to fill in for the regular attendant when that person is unavailable. This position will be responsible for opening and closing the Recycling Center (8:00am - 12pm Saturdays), following the recycling center fee schedule, verifying and issuing recycling center permits, assisting residents in proper disposal of recycling materials and other duties as assigned. Must be able to lift items up to 30 lbs.
