OUTDOOR WATERING BAN
Effective immediately, all outdoor watering is prohibited other than watering of gardens by handheld devices.
Level 2 (Significant Drought): All nonessential outdoor water use banned, except that watering of ornamental and flower gardens with drip irrigation, hand-held hose or watering cans may be permitted.
These restrictions will be enforced per Mendon’s rules and regulations. The fines for violations of the water restrictions are as follows:
First Offense: $50.00
Second Offense: $100.00
Third and subsequent Offenses: $200.00
We would like to bring to your attention the State Mandated water restrictions that will go into effect starting May 1st of this year. Although the department has its own water restriction bylaws, we are also mandated to comply with the rules of the Massachusetts DEP under the Town’s Water Management Registration and Water Withdrawal Permit. Over the years you have seen or been faced with no outside watering between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. These are State Mandated Requirements within our permit. Recently the State has enhanced these requirements and added them to our permit and registration.
Due to high demand and extremely low water tanks, Hopedale has been forced to implement a no outside water restriction for the foreseeable future. Fire protection needs as well as required water pressure to the higher elevation homes in town are being severely affected due to the low water elevations in their tanks.
Customers with private wells for irrigation are advised to ensure signage is present indicating well water is used for irrigation.
